ABOUT US

Our Mission

To transform social and cultural landscapes by creating free, accessible systems of support — led by and for Black people, and open to all who move in solidarity.

@blkbrighton | Community-powered visibility.

Our Goals & Ethos

Amplify

Black-led initiatives, culture, and community presence in Sussex and beyond.

Connect

Students, residents, and organisations through shared resources, events, and opportunities.

Celebrate

Black voices, heritage, and futures cultural, and creative spaces.

Community Guidelines

BLK Brighton is a space for positive community engagement. All communications and interactions should be respectful and aligned with our values of community, connection, and culture.

This is not a closed network. BLK Brighton exists to centre the Black diaspora, while also connecting with the global majority and working in solidarity with all marginalised communities. Our ethos is rooted in collective liberation — because when we all thrive, we all rise.

Tendai - Founder & Moderator

I'm Tendai in both academic and community settings, my work is driven by the relationship between theory and lived experience. At the core of BLK Brighton is what I've learnt from my research and I've used the rich history of Black storytelling and archiving to create this platform that centres visibility, access, and liberation.

We're proudly partnered with Black at Sussex and the University of Sussex, using this collaboration to extend access, opportunity, and amplification for Black students, creatives, organisers, and entrepreneurs.
